Record Managing EditorWhen Interstate 70 turned into a parking lot during multiple lengthy closures in the past year, reaching stranded motorists was problematic.A new all-terrain search and rescue utility vehicle now is available to improve those efforts along with other emergency situations that occur in the area. The Warren County Emergency Management Agency was awarded a $9,844.55 grant to cover a large part of the ATV purchase. The county also contributed $4,000 for the installation of a radio and emergency warning lights. The Warren County Ambulance District also provided an additional $4,200 to equip the ATV with a stretcher and other EMS supplies.Mike Daniels, Warren County Emergency Management director, said the ATV will be a welcome addition for future emergency or community needs.“I am very happy we received this grant,” he remarked. “This has been a needed asset that will be used as outlined in the grant application. It will also be utilized for incidents on the I-70 corridor.”The grant was awarded by the Region C Homeland Security Oversight Committee from funds overseen from the Missouri Office of Homeland Security.Daniels said the grant was not awarded during the initial grant process in early 2014 when the application was submitted by the Lincoln County Fire Protection District. The application was submitted a second time, this time by Daniels, when supplemental funds became available. The ATV will be housed at the ambulance district and will be available for use within Warren, Lincoln and Pike counties. The vehicle will also be available statewide if an emergency need arises. The vehicle will primarily be used as a mini-ambulance, Daniels said, to help responders get to remote locations that cannot be reached by an ambulance or law enforcement vehicle. In addition, it will be deployed during large planned community events, such as the county fair, parades and training exercises.

The Warren County Emergency Management Agency was recently awarded a grant to help pay for an all-terrain search and rescue utility vehicle. The Warren County Ambulance District also provided funds to equip the vehicle with a stretcher and supplies.
