The change order — the ninth since construction began — totaled $11,601.65 and dealt with four necessary items. The items are an offset wall in physical education storage, a plumbing rough-in, the relocation of a guy wire and a dedicated water meter for the storm shelter.

As part of the new business at its July meeting, the Warren County R-III School Board approved a series of financial measures.
Foremost among those was a change order for the new Daniel Boone Elementary School.
The change order — the ninth since construction began — totaled $11,601.65 and dealt with four necessary items. The items are an offset wall in physical education storage, a plumbing rough-in, the relocation of a guy wire and a dedicated water meter for the storm shelter.
Superintendent Dr. Gregg Klinginsmith outlined the need for the changes.
“In the PE storage area, there is an offset wall that needed to be constructed because of the ducting over the firewall,” Klinginsmith said. “There’s one plumbing rough-in that wasn’t included in the drawings. Then, there was a guy wire in the sidewalk, from one of the utility poles that’s coming down right where the sidewalk was. We had to move that. There wasn’t any getting around that. The storm shelter has to have its own water meter, so that’s a change that had to happen.”
Klinginsmith said that he expects there to be a bit more needing to come out of the budget to complete construction.
“There are some small things that are going to need to be fixed,” he said.
“They’ve done a really nice job with all the change orders,” Board member Rich Barton said.
“Our architects and engineers have done a really nice job,” Klinginsmith said. “Our construction, the trades, everything has gone really well.”
The board unanimously approved the change order.
Also on the new business docket before the board at the meeting was the recommendation to present food service bids to the district.
The recommendations included groceries from Kohl Wholesale and Gold Star, per Line-Item Pricing, to purchase from both; dairy purchased from Prairie Farms, distributed by Siedhoff; and cleaning supplies purchased from Royal Paper.
“Our last bids are up, and this is our next bid for this,” Klinginsmith said. “For our grocery, we’re using Kohl and Gold Star per line, whatever we’re wanting to use for the cheaper of the two.”
Grocery items for purchase include beef patties, ground beef, beef/bean burritos, bacon, ham slices, popcorn chicken, chicken tenders, chicken patties, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, corn dogs, pizza, biscuits and cereal.
The dairy purchase includes whole milk, one-percent white, chocolate and strawberry milk, and skim milk.
“They are very similar to what we use now,” Klinginsmith said. “We’re very pleased with them.”
