Warren County Presiding Commissioner Joe Gildehaus was honored in August with a Leadership Award from the Missouri Sheriff’s Association.
Gildehaus received the award on Aug. 12 along with Randolph County Presiding Commissioner Sid Conklin and several other individuals who were involved in work to support the passage of House Bill 147, which was passed by the Missouri Senate in May and signed by Gov. Mike Kehoe, July 14.
Gildehaus said he and Conklin as well as other commissioners and sheriffs throughout the state worked many long hours to come up with a solution to fund the sheriff’s retirement.
The bill would fund pensions for Missouri sheriffs from fees on court documents and a portion of the funding the state pays counties to house prisoners.
Gildehaus said at times debate on the issue was contentious, but officials worked hard to reach a compromise.
“It was a shock to me, I did not know this was coming,” Gildehaus said of the honor from the sheriff’s association.
