Warren County man charged in home invasion, assault

A Warrenton area resident is facing three felony charges after allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting the person inside.Nathan L. Simpson, 29, is charged with first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with evidence in a felony prosecution. He also is charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.Simpson was arrested Feb. 17 and released several days later on a $37,500 bond, according to online court records. Authorities allege that Simpson forced his way into a rental property on Log Cabin Drive around 11 p.m. Feb. 16, while the victim inside filmed the break-in. Once inside, Simpson reportedly engaged in a fist fight with the resident, before pushing the person outside.After kicking the victim out, authorities said Simpson destroyed the phone with the recording of the break-in and assault. He then allegedly threatened the victim with a loaded handgun.First-degree burglary is a Class B felony, with a potential punishment of five to 15 years in prison if Simpson is convicted. He has a court hearing set for March 28 in Warren County Circuit Court.
