The Warren County Livestock Auction raised a total of $483,285 for local 4-Hers on July 3, eclipsing last year’s total by nearly $50,000.
While still short of 2023’s record of just under $498,000, it was still a strong showing for the auction and Fair Board President Paul Owenby was pleased with the results.
He did concede that they had an increase in exhibitors this year with 201 in total compared to 194 last year. That still represents a strong increase for just seven additional exhibitors.
The highest selling animal this year belonged to poultry grand champion Miles Jaeger, whose 17 pound chicken sold for an astonishing $10,000 to kick off the auction.
In total, the auction sold 43 cows at an average of $3.91 per pound, 21 goats at an average of $14.58 per pound, 28 chickens at an average of $1,751.79 per head, 42 rabbits at an average of $1,305.95 per head, seven lambs at an average of $9.79 per pound and 60 hogs at an average of $7.86 per pound.
According to Stacy Schroer with the livestock auction, the biggest spender of the evening was Old Monroe Lumber in Lincoln County.
