A man on probation for prior felony charges has been convicted of animal abuse for crushing a kitten with his foot.

Torrence E. Breaux, 32, was found guilty by a Warren County jury Monday, Oct. 30, for felony animal abuse. For the Class D felony, the jury recommended Breaux be sentenced to 180 days in jail and be forced to pay a fine.

However, Breaux’s final sentence will be determined by Presiding Judge Wes Dalton during a hearing Jan. 2, 2018, at the Warren County Circuit Court.

According to police, an angry Breaux entered a residence on Orchard Farm Circle Nov. 9, 2015, placed his foot on the head of a kitten on the floor and crushed the pet to death. He then kicked the cat outside of the home.

The animal’s owner told police that the incident took place in front of her children. Breaux was charged for the crime about a year later in October 2016.

Breaux was on probation after pleading guilty to a series of felony charges in July 2016. The charges included third-degree domestic assault that allegedly occurred Oct. 4, 2015. They also included a charge for holding a woman against her will and attempting to escape from police custody March 3, 2016.

He was given suspended sentences in those cases and placed on five years’ supervised probation, records show.
