The annual Warren County Fair will take place next week in Warrenton. The Fair will open Sunday with the annual parade, queen contest and music. There are no activities Monday. The gates will reopen Tuesday through Sunday, including the carnival. All events will take place at the Warren County Fairgrounds except the parade.Livestock shows, carnival rides and Fair food make their return for another year, along with truck, tractor and car shows. The theme is “Barn in the USA,” which Fair Association President Paul Owenby said is a reminder of the agricultural roots of Warren County.“This year’s theme is to take it back to the rustic way of living, when there were barns all over the place,” he said. “To show what we’ve grown from.”Daily activities at the Fair offer a variety of family entertainment, from carnival rides to truck competitions and animal shows.A major focus of the Fair every year is highlighting the work of kids in 4-H and FFA agricultural clubs, Owenby said. The annual Warren County Fair Parade will begin Sunday starting at 2 p.m.New to the Fair this year is the team penning event, where horse riders will work together to wrangle young cattle and compete for the fastest time.“It’s really neat to watch to see how the horses and the riders work in unison,” Owenby said. “(The sport) has gotten more popular over the last couple of years.”The Fair will not have a main stage musician or entertainer this year, and the annual fireworks show has been moved to the last day.Owenby said there was a setback in getting the fireworks arranged for their usual date on July 4. Instead, the fireworks show will close out the Fair on Saturday, July 7.Owenby thanked the group of all volunteers who put time and effort into planning for the Fair.“There are a lot of volunteers that put a lot of time in to make (the events) go off,” he said. “I appreciate any and all support that we get from the community . . . The only way we can continue (the Fair) and make it better is ongoing support from the community.”
