The annual Warren County Fair Parade kicking off Fair Week this year will be Sunday, July 1. Organizers are keeping an eye on hot weather leading up to the event. The parade will begin at 2 p.m., with lineup for participants starting at 12:30 p.m. The start time is earlier than in years past. The time is also different than what is listed in this year’s Fair Book, organizers said. The parade route will be the same as last year. It begins at the Warren County Courthouse in downtown Warrenton, travels east on Main Street into Truesdale, then turns south on Pinckney Street to Warrenton High School. The Fair Parade is one of the area’s biggest events of the year. It’s a time for the agricultural youth groups who take a central role in the Fair to introduce themselves to the community, along with dozens of other organizations who will have spots in the parade.Participants don’t need to preregister, they simply need to bring themselves to the lineup at 12:30, said Fair Association President Paul Owenby.Organizers are going to keep a close watch on the weather, especially heat, as the day for the parade approaches, Owenby said. They might have to make adjustments to the plan for that day.“The weather is so unpredictable, we’re probably going to have to keep an eye on it until the last minute,” Owenby said. “If we continue with weather like this (heat), we might be smart to restructure or do something different.”Organizers will make adjustments as necessary as the day approaches, he said. The current July 1 weather prediction from AccuWeather calls for a high temperature of 90 degrees, mostly sunny with mild humidity. If the parade goes on as planned, spectators will want to find a shady spot with a nice breeze.Owenby cautioned parents to keep an eye on their children and prevent them from walking into the street during the parade. He strongly advised that people giving out candy during the parade have someone walking the route and handing out candy, rather than throwing it from vehicles and encouraging kids to chase candy in the street.“We want to keep the children on the curb,” Owenby said. For those worried about parking along the downtown Warrenton portion of the route, the city of Warrenton has several public parking lots available. The parking lot locations are at the intersections of Walton Street and South East Street; Market Street and Oak Street; and on Main Street next to the post office. Other parking lots are available at the discretion of their owners. The carnival and events at the Warren County Fairgrounds begin July 3.Warren County Fair Parade route
