Warren County Commission deciding on a shooting range

To The Editor:As a landowner whose property is immediately adjacent to the proposed live fire facility, I believe there are a number of important issues that need to be considered. What would this facility mean to Warren County?1. A significant source or additional noise pollution as well as potential damage to the surrounding properties, whose owners contribute to the community through taxes and citizenship.2. Decline in property values.3. More firearms in the community.4. Use of our community resources (ambulance, police, etc.) in the event of accidents, fire, in addition to the need to oversee and enforce the CUP guidelines as they were proposed. What it does NOT mean to Warren County is:1. Revenue by way of taxes.2. Improvement in infrastructure.3. More safety.PTF states that “many private landowners shoot frequently” and points out that Reifsnider is an additional source of firearms noise. Their apparent claim is that more shooting won’t be a problem because there is already shooting noise present? In fact, this very clearly illustrates that additional gun noise in our community should not be welcomed.PTF’s strategy seems to be to present a hypothetical danger, that the police and military are not being trained properly. However, whether or not you agree with this hypothesis is irrelevant to the decision that needs to be made for Warren County at this time. All PTF brings to our county is the potential for problems. Noise pollution, water table contamination from lead ammunition, decline in property values, more guns in the county that need to be kept safe, property damage and possible injury to people or their livestock, and consumption of resources. While I will defend any property owner’s right to use their property as they choose, I must object when their choice of use impinges on my right, also as a property owner, to enjoy my home without my neighbors interfering with my pursuit of happiness, safety or peace and quiet.Cynthia Schowengerdt
