Warren County 4-H members enjoy fun-filled kayaking adventure at Finger Lakes

Posted

Warren County 4-H members enjoyed a day of adventure, learning, and friendship during a kayaking outing at Finger Lakes State Park on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The day began with members gathering at the lake, where they learned important water safety skills before heading out on the water. Participants received instruction on proper paddling techniques, kayak handling, and water safety procedures. One of the highlights of the day was practicing wet water exits, an important skill that teaches kayakers how to safely exit a kayak if it tips over.

After the safety lesson, members launched their kayaks and spent the afternoon exploring the scenic waters of Finger Lakes. Youth paddled throughout the lake, gaining confidence and improving their kayaking skills while enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

Fun and laughter filled the afternoon as members participated in kayak relays and games on the water. The activities encouraged teamwork, communication, and plenty of friendly competition while helping participants become more comfortable in their kayaks.

The group also enjoyed grilling hot dogs for supper, giving members an opportunity to relax, visit with friends, and share stories from their time on the water.

To wrap up the day, members completed their annual 4-H goal-setting paperwork and reports. The activity gave youth a chance to reflect on their accomplishments during the past year and set goals for future projects and activities.

The kayaking outing combined outdoor recreation, life skills education, and 4-H recordkeeping, providing a well-rounded experience for participants. Members returned home with improved paddling skills, a greater understanding of water safety, completed 4-H reports, and many great memories from a fun-filled day at Finger Lakes State Park.
