Voters have say in presidential race this week

Warren County voters this week will have a say in who they prefer to be the next president.Despite the interest and divide among the top candidates, County Clerk Barb Daly doesn’t expect a large turnout at the polls Tuesday, March 15, for the presidential preference primary. She estimates the number of registered voters who will cast ballots will be around 20 percent. That figure is close to the average from the previous two presidential preference elections. In the last presidential primary four years ago, the election drew 7 percent of the registered voters. Four years earlier — in races featuring Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and Republicans John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee — the turnout was 36 percent.“You just don’t know,” Daly said.Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Voters may select only one party ballot — Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Constitution.Absentee ballots can be filled up to Monday, March 14, at the county clerk’s office in Warrenton. The clerk’s office will be open this Saturday, March 12, from 8 a.m.-noon. The office is open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Two voting precincts will be combined for Tuesday’s election, according to Daly. Voters in the Concord Hill and Hopewell precincts will cast ballots at the American Legion Post 180 located off Highway 47 north of Marthasville.“Letters went out to voters in the Concord Hill precinct notifying them of the change,” Daly said.Below are all the candidates who filed in Missouri, listed in the order their names will appear on the ballot:Democrats — Hillary Clinton, Henry Hewes, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Bernie Sanders, Keith Judd, Willie L. Wilson, Martin J. O’Malley, John Wolfe and Jon Adams.Republicans — Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Donald J. Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Carly Fiorina, John R. Kasich, Rand Paul, Jim Lynch and Mike Huckabee.Libertarian Party — Austin Petersen, Steven Elliott (Steve) Kerbel, Rhett Rosenquest Smith, Cecil Ince and Marc Allan Feldman. Results from Tuesday’s election will be available on the county’s website at warrencountymo.org.Election
