A volunteer firefighter is accused of stealing $6,170 from the Warrenton Fire Protection District's Explorer bank account.On Tuesday, Warren County Prosecutor Jennifer Bartlett charged Kerre McCormick, 41, of the first block of Whispering Pine Lane in Warrenton, with felony stealing.McCormick admitted to police she wrote and signed 17 checks from the account for cash, according to a probable cause statement. She used the cash to pay personal bills, police said.McCormick was treasurer of the Explorer program, according to fire district officials.Warrenton Fire Chief Mike Owenby said the funds were discovered missing on April 4 when the bank account was found to be overdrawn. The matter was then turned over to the Warrenton Police Department.McCormick had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. Owenby, on Tuesday, said the fire board is expected to meet soon to decide McCormick's fate.An arrest warrant was issued for McCormick Tuesday.
