Missouri Rep. Bryan Spencer was named the regional High School Teacher of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.“This award is exceptionally meaningful to me as someone who cares deeply about our nation and the next generation who will one day take over the reins of leadership. As a teacher, I place a strong emphasis on helping our young people to become not only successful in their professional lives, but also to be active and conscientious citizens who work to improve the world around them,” said Spencer, R-Wentzville. “I’m proud of the young people who have come through my classroom and humbled to be recognized for the part I have played in fueling their interest in our great nation.”Spencer, who teaches at Liberty Christian Academy, was joined by fellow LCA teacher Elizabeth Colbert, who was named Elementary School Teacher of the Year.“I am deeply honored to be recognized for the work I have done with the amazing young people in my classroom who have developed such a strong interest in our nation’s history,” said Colbert. “It’s a blessing to have kids who genuinely want to learn about what it means to be a good citizen, and I am very thankful to have the opportunity to promote their interest.”The VFW annually recognizes the nation’s top elementary, junior high and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics regularly and promote America’s history and traditions effectively. The award recognizes teachers who show an outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students.Spencer previously received the honor in 2015 and has now received the award a second time for Missouri District 9, which covers all or parts of Audrain, Callaway, Lincoln, Montgomery, St. Charles and Warren counties.Rep.
