A rebuilt section of Veterans Memorial Parkway in Warrenton is expected to reopen Saturday, June 30.The road connects to a new Interstate 70 interchange currently under construction in Warrenton. It includes a roundabout at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and the interchange. While the roundabout will be open for use, the exits leading to the I-70 ramps and the overpass bridge will remain closed, according to Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).The remained of the interchange is expected to open later this year. The landscaping portion of the project will be completed later this fall when conditions are more favorable for transplanting. At that time, dramatic changes will be seen taking place in each of the roundabouts and in the areas between the roundabouts near the overpass."Currently, there are temporary light poles in place until the correct ones can be installed, which will be black in color to match the other ornate features on the project," said MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga. This project is fully funded by two 1/2 cent sales taxes passed by the residents of the city of Warrenton in 2016. The project includes two additional roundabouts — one at the north end of the overpass, and one at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Highway MM.In exchange for adding to Missouri’s transportation system, Warrenton has agreed to assume ownership and maintenance of Highway MM to Main Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway from Denny’s to the new interchange.WARRENTON ROUNDABOUTRecord photo
