Record Managing EditorThe city of Warrenton announced last week it has taken ownership of a property west of Denny’s restaurant.City officials, at last Tuesday’s board of aldermen meeting, said the .77-acre property at 428 W. Veterans Memorial Parkway was donated to the city by G.E. Capital, of Scottsdale, Ariz.The city paid $1,426 in title fees and closing costs, according to Director of Operations/Finance Officer Terri Thorn.“We certainly appreciate that donation,” she said.The city has funds set aside in this year’s budget to erect a sign on the property.“Hopefully the city can put a very nice sign out there representing our city that is visible from the interstate,” Thorn said.In other news• The board voted 6-0 in support of a one-year financial advisory agreement between the city and WM Financial Strategies. The company will assist in a number of areas, including capital planning, analysis of special taxing districts, development proposals and long-term budgeting. WM Financial Strategies will be paid $150 per hour.• Voters will decide Nov. 3 on whether or not the city’s western limits should be extended down the Interstate 70 corridor. A resolution to place the measure on the ballot was passed by a 6-0 vote. The annexation proposal covers only the interstate and adjacent right of way.• Three special event permits were issued to the Warren County Fair Board for three upcoming events. The board voted 6-0 to approve the request. The fairgrounds will be the site of the Ozark Rodeo Association Finals Sept. 11-12 and motocross racing on Sept. 19. A Pride in Your Ride Truck Show was held Aug. 22.The city’s planning and zoning commission previously recommended approval at its Aug. 6 meeting.• A liquor license was issued to Lost Creek Vineyard for the Fall Fest event on Sept. 26.• The board awarded the rock bid to Bobby Hoelscher Trucking, Warrenton. The bid total, based on last year’s usage, was in the amount of $21,393.90. A second bid from Bedrock Quarry was not considered since it did not include a delivery charge.• The city will spend $2,826 with Knapheide to purchase an electric tarp for the public works department. The only other bid was submitted by Viking-Cives Midwest for $3,810.• Cochran was given approval to proceed with engineering services related to stormwater assessment on Robin Avenue. The cost, approved by a 6-0 vote, will be $5,440.• The city will build sidewalks on Dryden Street between East Oak and the alley and on North Morgan between West Oak and the alley. The estimated project cost is $3,017. The budgeted amount was $3,100.• An ordinance related to conflicts of interest was unanimously adopted.City of Warrenton
