The city of Warrenton has closed its park bathrooms due to a string of vandalism.
City Administrator Terri Thorn said major damage in the bathrooms had been done as a result of the COVID-19 emergency.
“We were experiencing high volumes of vandalism related to toilet paper supplies being in those buildings,” Thorn explained during a March 17 city meeting. “We had multiple days in a row where overnight vandalism occurred and things were significantly destroyed in those buildings.”
Thorn did not say when the park bathrooms might reopen.
City parks themselves remain open to the public, although athletic fields and pavilions are closed to events in order to limit public gatherings, Thorn said. The Warrenton Aquatic Center is closed until at least March 31.
Warrenton has canceled or postponed a number of public events in response to COVID-19.
