An overview of potential upgrades to the Wright City R-II High School building was presented during the board’s monthly meeting Jan. 21.Estimates for the project, broken down into five components, also were shared, with the option of an alternative if the budget allows for additional work. The cost outline was prepared by Cochran Engineering.Primary work will be done to upgrade both the men’s and women’s locker rooms, the coaches office, as well as adding corridor storage and replacing exterior soffits.“The summer of 2016 will mark the fourth year of a five-year facility plan,” said Superintendent David Buck. “In the original plan approved by the board, it called for renovations of the gym area at the high school, soffit replacement, reseal of the high school parking lot and HVAC work at East Elementary. The latter has been completed.”The upgrades to each of the locker rooms will have an estimated combined cost of $50,746.08 and include lighting enhancements, new plumbing fixtures, flooring and doors, along with dry erase boards.Considerable work also will be done to the coaches office to make the space multifunctional, with the addition of a training room area, shower and changing facilities for officials. The anticipated cost of those upgrades is $21,734.02.“We’re also going to need some storage area,” said Buck. “Right now shower rooms serve as storage area and that’s not what we want. We’re going to create a designated storage area.”The storage addition to the southwest corner of the high school is expected to cost around $9,856.00.Additionally, the high school is in need of exterior soffit replacement, which has an anticipated cost of $27,412.00.This brings the estimated grand total cost of the entire project to $125,748.10, without the possible addition of an exterior gym canopy, which would include pavement and an overhead awning extending from the primary gym entrance.“Over time, the high school has asked that instead of soffit replacement, they get an overhang for the gym entrance,” said Buck. “With that included, we are slightly over budget, but these are just specs and not actual bids.”The board voted unanimously to seek bids on both the primary and alternate project options, considering the awning addition if it falls within the budget constraints.Buck says the district benefited from being able to use one contractor for the entire project.“We figured out the same contractors who handle the locker rooms would be addressing the soffit issues,” said Buck. “We thought it would be prudent to put that on the same project to get the biggest bang for our buck.”Wright City High School
