Update: Haggard, suspect in sex case, surrenders to police

Eugene (Neil) Haggard turned himself in at the Warren County Jail Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff Kevin Harrison said Haggard was pressured by family and media attention in the case.

Here is our original story

Warren County deputies are looking for a 54-year-old Wright City man who is facing criminal charges for an alleged sex case involving a six-year-old girl.

The suspect, Eugene (Neil) Haggard, of the 12000 block of Mistic Drive, is believed to be hiding to evade law enforcement, according to Sheriff Kevin Harrison.

Last Thursday, Haggard was charged with first-degree statutory sodomy and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A $100,000 cash-only bond has been set.

Haggard is known to drive a gray, full-size Ford van bearing the Missouri license plate of 0FK-664, according to Harrison. The van has a camouflage-pattern trim around its lower edge.

Haggard is described as being 5-foot-7 and weighing 140 pounds. He has gray hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information on the case can call the sheriff's department at 636-456-4332.

Harrison expressed concern, saying that a “54-year-old man doesn't wake up one day deciding to sodomize a young child. It is possible that there are other victims who haven't come forward. It is also statistically probable that Haggard will offend again, which further emphasize the urgency that he be taken into custody.”

The Warren County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation into the allegations April 20 following a complaint made by the girl's mother, according to a probable cause statement. The female victim told authorities that Haggard had touched her genitals while she was at his home between 10 p.m. April 19 and 1 a.m. April 20.

When a detective interviewed Haggard, he allegedly admitted that the allegations were true, according to a probable cause statement.
