The Highway 47 overpass bridge replacement project in Warrenton is still on schedule according to a Missouri Department of Transportation official.
According to Improve I-70 East Project Team Director Kim Trainor, the bridge is still on schedule to be completed prior to the beginning of school in August. She said the plan is to place bridge girders late next week, which will signal the halfway point in the completion of the project. She said crews have been working over the past few weeks laying the foundations for the new bridge.
The demolition of the old structure occurred on Friday, March 27, with the initial demolition taking approximately 48 hours. The replacement of the overpass was originally slated to take 134 days before the new bridge would be open for traffic.
In addition to the bridge construction, lane shifts on Interstate 70 are scheduled to begin this week on eastbound I-70 at the Stracks Church Road overpass for pavement construction.
Eastbound I-70 traffic will be shifted into a split lane configuration for a short distance near the Stracks Church Road bridge over I-70. Traffic in the right lane will remain in its current location; however, traffic traveling in the left lane will shift left onto the newly constructed pavement. After crossing under the Stracks Church Road bridge, the left lane will shift to the right and back to the current configuration. This lane shift is expected to remain in place throughout June.
Trainor added that there will be some major lane shifts beginning in the middle of July where all eastbound traffic will switch completely in between the current east and westbound lanes of travel as MoDOT removes the existing eastbound lanes.
