Record Managing EditorTwo Wright City runners captured medals at the season-opening Linn Invitational Saturday.Jynna Fritz completed the 3.1-mile girls race in 22 minutes, 14 seconds to place 11th, while teammate Erin Tomschin ran a 23:04 to finish in 22nd.Both are returning all-state qualifiers. The top 30 finishers earned medals.As a team, the Wildcats placed eighth out of 13 schools with 195 points. Fatima won the team crown with 34 points as three of its runners placed in the top seven. Brianna Haller, of Fatima, won the race in 19:53.39.Other girls competing were Courtney Lawson (59th place, 25:29), Zoe Pezold (83rd, 26:54), Ashley Schulte (102nd, 28:43) and McKenzie McMullin (121st, 34:17).The Wright City boys team placed 15th with 388 points out of 19 schools. Fatima won the team title with 51 points.“Linn is one of the hardest meets we go to and the runners did a great job,” Head Coach Sue Wright said.Jake Mueller ran a 19:54 to lead the Wildcats, followed by Brice Reash in 66th with a 20:20. Other runners were Nick Mueller (90th, 21:16), Stephan Norwood (95th, 21:31), Tanner Riley (100th, 21:38), Arthur Ludwig (118th, 22:45) and Javier Gonzalez (142nd, 24:47).Jake Mueller, Riley and Ludwig all bettered their times considerably from last year, Wright noted.“Everyone’s goal is to improve their times each meet,” she remarked. “You cannot teach experience and all the runners gained experience on Saturday. For some of them it was their first time running a race. Again, very proud of all the runners and their performances.”Wright City is back in action Sept. 25 at the Warrenton Invitational.JV resultsIn the junior varsity boys race, Tristin Riley placed fourth to earn a medal.
