Two Wright City police officers were presented with special commendation awards at the Feb. 26 board of aldermen meeting. The officers, Tommy Tomlin and Bryan Thomas, were recognized for their roles in unrelated cases that led to the arrests of multiple suspects.Tomlin was on routine patrol Feb. 7 when he observed two men loading items into a vehicle and acting suspicious as he drove back. Once the vehicle left a residential area, he initiated a traffic stop and approximately 10 pounds of marijuana packaged for delivery was confiscated.During the course of the investigation, a total of 15 pounds of pot was seized, along with $16,000 in cash, according to authorities. Two men, ages 23 and 27, were charged with felony drug possession with the intent to distribute.“It would have been reasonable to take a mental note and carry on with his patrol and initiate an investigation at a later time,” Lt. Tim Matthews said. “Officer Tomlin’s performance was nothing less than sensational and removed another drug dealer from our community.”Thomas was involved in a vehicle pursuit that originated in Wright City and ended in Callway County Feb. 22. He was patrolling an area where a wanted fugitive was known to visit and observed a vehicle being driven by the suspect, authorities said.A pursuit ensued, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, and eventually came to an end with the suspect driving on three flat tires and one tire missing. Officers also located methamphetamine in the car. Two people were arrested and charged for their role in the alleged incident.Matthews noted Thomas had nearly 2,000 calls for service and made 93 arrests in 2014, most of which were drug related.“Officer Thomas continues to work tirelessly for this agency,” Matthews said.
