Two weeks remain to file for election

Posted

Elected offices for a number of local government and school district positions are open to candidate filing for two more weeks, ending Jan. 15. Candidates must file now to have their names on election ballots in April.

Candidate filing has been mostly quiet over the last two weeks. Truesdale Alderman Robert Green filed to seek another two-year term amongst the city’s leadership.

Meanwhile, incumbent Washington School District board member Dan Contarini announced he would not seek another term. He has served a total of 12 years on the board.

Below are the current candidates for offices in Warren County as of the end of December. Information from local school districts has not been updated while their administrative offices were closed for the holidays.

City of Warrenton

The position of mayor and one alderman for each of the city’s three wards is up for election. All the positions are for two-year terms.

Mayor Eric Schleuter, Ward 2 Alderman Gary Auch and Ward 3 Alderman Gary Miller have all filed for re-election. They are joined by Cheryl Dyer, who is seeking office as the alderman for Ward 1.

Incumbent Ward 1 Alderman Greg Costello has not filed for re-election.

Candidates may file for election with the city clerk at Warrenton City Hall, 200 W. Booneslick Road. A map of the city’s wards is available on the city’s website, www.warrenton-mo.org.

Warren County R-III School District

Two seats on the R-III Board of Education will be on the ballot in April. Board members serve for three-year terms.

Current officeholders Ginger Schenck and Allan Dreyer are running again for the board. Challenger Joe Lanigan has also filed to run for a seat.

Candidates may file for election at the superintendent’s office, 385 W. Veterans Memorial Parkway, Warrenton.

Warrenton Fire Protection District

Three seats are up for election on the Warrenton FPD Board of Directors. Two seats have a six-year term, while the third is for the remaining two years of a term.

Incumbents Malissa Booth, Donald Owenby and Jim Sharp filed for re-election, and did not have any challengers thus far.

Candidates may file for the election at Warrenton Fire Station 1, 606 Fairgrounds Road, Warrenton.

City of Wright City

One board of aldermen seat for each of Wright City’s two wards will be on the April ballot. The seats are for two-year terms.

Incumbents Ward 1 Alderman Kerry Lambright and Ward 2 Alderman Nathan Rohr have both filed to retain their seats. No challenges have yet emerged.

Candidates may file for election at the new Wright City Hall, 636 Westwoods Road. Ward 1 consists of all residences north of Interstate 70, and Ward 2 is south of I-70.

Wright City R-II School District

Two school board seats with three-year terms are up for election in the Wright City School District.

Mary Groeper and Austin Jones, both of whom currently serve on the board, were the only candidates to file in the initial weeks.

Candidates may file for election at the school district’s central office, 90 Bell Road, Wright City.

City of Marthasville

The office of Marthasville’s mayor and one alderman in each of the city’s two wards will be decided by voters in April. All three incumbents are being challenged for office.

In the race for the city’s mayor, current Mayor David Lange will compete for re-election against challenger David Edgington.

In the East Ward, incumbent Alderman Dan Grafrath will face off against Keith Theissen. For West Ward alderman, incumbent Leo Meyer is challenged by Keith Hagedorn.
