Two Warrenton grapplers place first at FZN Invite

A pair of Warrenton wrestlers took home first place finishes at the Ft. Zumwalt North Invite last weekend. 

Warrenton senior Jacob Ruff and sophomore Allison Vacek both won all four of their matches to place first in their weight class. 

Competing in the 215 weight class, Ruff won the weight class with three wins by fall in his first three matches. He beat Rishied McCloud of Lift for Life Academy in 2:45 in the semifinals. Ruff won the 215-pound title with a 9-1 major decision win over Landon McNeil of Capital City. 

Allison Vacek also won three of her four matches by fall. Vacek’s quarterfinal win over Gabby Voshell of Rolla came on a 6-4 win by sudden victory. She pinned Sidney Zimmerman of Hannibal in 33 seconds in the semifinals. She won the 155-pound weight class with a win by fall over Shanell Williams of Sikeston in the championship match. 

Joshua Kassing joined Ruff as the other Warrenton boys wrestler to register a top three finish at the Ft. Zumwalt North Invite. Competing in the 132-pound weight class, Kassing won his first three matches to advance to the semifinals. After dropping a match to Tristen Essig of Hannibal on a 10-2 major decision, Kassing beat Brayden Burke of Seckman on a 5-2 decision to earn a third place finish. 

Manny McCauley won a pair of matches and placed fourth in the 113-pound weight class. Noah Lohrmann rebounded from a quarterfinal loss in the 138-pound weight class to place fifth. He won his final three matches to place fifth. 

Freshman Alexis Ruff placed third for the Lady Warriors. Competing in the 115-pound weight class, she won three of her four matches. After earning a pair of wins by fall, Ruff dropped her semifinal match to Stevie Lupo of Francis Howell Central. Ruff beat Delaney Rapp of Windsor Imperial on a 14-4 major decision in the third place match. 

The Warrenton wrestling teams are slated to compete in the Liberty Invite in Wentzville this weekend. The Lady Warriors will compete Dec. 8. The Warrenton boys wrestlers will compete Dec. 9.
