Two teens charged with firing BB gun at police cars

Record Managing EditorTwo teenage boys are facing charges for allegedly firing a BB gun last week at a Warrenton police car.Police said three teens were driving a pickup truck around the city Dec. 23 shooting at houses, signs and vehicles. As they drove on Walton Street, one or two shots were fired at police cars parked at city hall, according to the probable cause statement.A Warrenton cop, who happened to be in the parking lot and heard a shot hit a vehicle, pursued the fleeing truck. The truck was stopped in the area of Morgan Park around 6:07 p.m.Two of the suspects were identified as Wyatt Bates, 17, of the 600 block of Cherry Street, and Shawn Lee Stiegman, 18, of the 1000 block of Hawthorn. They are charged with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.The status of a third suspect, a juvenile driver, was not immediately known.Police found three carbon dioxide canisters and multiple BB projectiles in Stiegman’s right front pocket, according to the probable cause statement. Other BB projectiles were discovered in the vehicle’s glove box. The BB handgun was located on the side of the road where it allegedly had been discarded by the suspects, police said.
