Two marijuana dispensaries approved in county

Two locations in Warren County are approved to dispense marijuana after state regulators released their list of dispensary licenses last week.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said out of more than 1,100 applicants, a total of 192 licenses are being issued for marijuana dispensaries across the state.

One Warren County location is in Warrenton, while another is in the Wright City area.

The Warrenton dispensary will be located at the site of the former Hardee’s building at 711 N. Highway 47. A group called New Growth Horizon LLC submitted the application for the location.

In the Wright City area, a company called GF Wright City LLC was approved to operate at a site at 14980 Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Actual sales of medical marijuana won’t begin until later this year. The businesses will still have to go through local city or county approval processes before beginning operation.

Three other companies had sought to establish dispensaries in the Warrenton area but were denied. QPS Missouri Holdings LLC applied to operate out of the location of the former BP Station at 714 N. Highway 47.

Another company, Green Wellness Releaf, owned by two Innsbrook residents, was denied for a dispensary permit at 112 S. East St. Show Me Premium Medical Cannabis was denied a permit to operate at 1302 E. Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Only 24 dispensary facilities were approved in each U.S. congressional district in Missouri. That number was based on guidelines set after Missouri voters legalized medical marijuana in 2018. Sites were approved based on a scoring system that included location and economic factors.

“(This) milestone represents over a year of effort by many people to put the final piece in place so that appropriately screened patients in Missouri can receive medical marijuana,” said Dr. Randall Williams, director of DHSS, in announcing the facility licenses.

Other licenses denied

Warren County did not fare well in terms of other marijuana-related business approvals. Several companies applying to either grow marijuana or manufacture marijuana products were denied applications.

Green Wellness Releaf was denied a license to grow and manufacture marijuana products at a location in the Truesdale industrial park on South Spoede Lane.

Generations LLC was denied licenses to grow and manufacture products on the Northwest Service Road in Warrenton. Show Me Premium Medical Cannabis  had applied for similar licenses along with a dispensary application, but was denied for all.

Only one business sought a license outside the I-70 corridor. Cella Green LLC had sought a license to grow marijuana at a location on Highway N near Holstein.
