A Montgomery County woman is charged with multiple felonies in connection with two break-ins earlier this month in northern Warren County.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Township Line Road and Valley Farm Road Nov. 6 after a resident discovered an unknown woman inside his house, according to an arrest report. Authorities believe the same woman burglarized another nearby home Nov. 7.
Shauna S. Stagner, 47, of Montgomery City, was arrested Nov. 7 and charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of felony drug possession, and tampering with a motor vehicle.
Deputies said a homeowner was alerted to trouble Nov. 6 when his dog began barking in the lower level of his home on Valley Farm Road around 7 a.m. The homeowner found a woman, later identified as Stagner, hiding in a downstairs closet.
The woman then fled the residence and started up one of the homeowner’s vehicles, deputies said. The homeowner jumped on the hood of the vehicle but slid off as she drove away.
Deputies allege Stagner drove the vehicle across the property, crashed it into a ditch and then left the scene.
The homeowner later identified Stagner through a photo lineup, the sheriff’s department said.
The next day, Nov. 7 at 11:40 a.m., a deputy returned to the area to investigate a possible sighting of the suspect. The deputy found her hiding behind a house.
During a search of her person, the deputy allegedly located a number of opioid pills. The owner of the home Stagner was hiding behind later told investigators the pills matched some that were missing from his house.
Deputies said Stagner also had taken seven personal checks belonging to the homeowner, a small amount of change from a coin jar, and some food from the kitchen.
Stagner’s next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 27 in Warren County Circuit Court.
Court records show Stagner has several previous drug-related convictions and a 2018 conviction in Montgomery County for driving with a revoked or suspended license.
