Turning Point has seated the board of directors and elected officers for the 2015–2016 fiscal year.The chair of the board development committee, Carrie Gates, provided oversight and guidance to move the board through a process designed to engage new members based on specific skills and experience.The fiscal year 2016 Board of Directors for Turning Point includes the following:Board Chair — Donna Wargin, business systems analyst, AFB International;Vice Chair — Laura Adams, design consultant, 94 Design;Treasurer — Glenda Buxton, financial planner, Edward Jones;Linda Ash, senior inventory analyst, AFB International;Dawnetta Benfield, mortgage counselor, Guaranteed Rate;Lynda Chandler, sales director, Mary Kay International;Carrie Gates, pastor, retired, United Methodist Church;Cindy Hanson, executive secretary, retired, Ameren;Angela Hilbert, counselor, retired, Warren County R-III Schools;Lauren Hopkins, attorney, Hopkins and Hopkins;Oscar Hunter, CEO, Hunter Modular Construction;Donna Thomas, supervisor of tellers, Jonesburg State Bank; andJim Zara, technology development section manager, Boeing.The executive director since May 2012, Ellen Reed holds a master of public policy degree with graduate certificates in nonprofit management and leadership and in women’s and gender studies, University of Missouri-St. Louis.Turning Point provides emergency shelter and supportive services (both residential and non-residential) for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. In fiscal year 2015, Turning Point provided in-person services to 241 individuals and responded to 772 hotline calls (404 from direct victims). The shelter provided 5,195 bednights of safety that enable battered and raped women to seek shelter with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.Services include shelter, hotline, advocacy, economic empowerment and support groups.Turning Point’s annual operating expenses are $572,000. Of annual revenues, government contracts account for 46 percent, private donations and events make up 17 percent, federated giving (such as United Way) comprises 21 percent, private foundations are 17 percent, Curious Collections is 2 percent, and in-kind donations are roughly 6 percent of the total.For more information or to seek shelter or support, please feel free to call 1-888-87307233.
