Record Managing Editor The city of Truesdale lost $1,021.75 in motor vehicle sales tax revenue in the past two years, money that went to other local governments. Administrator/City Clerk Mary Lou Rainwater said some residents will receive refunds from paying too much sales tax on certain purchases, while others may be billed where a lower tax rate was charged. The transactions that will be adjusted occurred between Aug. 1, 2012, and March 31, 2014. Rainwater said several thousands of dollars in revenue were lost from prior years, but the statute of limitations only allows the adjustment to be made for the previous two years. The amount that is being adjusted from local political subdivisions include $315.75 from Warrenton, $364 from Warren County, $40.50 from Lincoln County and $10.50 from Marthasville. That money soon will be going to Truesdale. The remaining difference of $291 will be billed to individuals by the Missouri Department of Revenue. According to Rainwater, some residents were charged the Warrenton sales tax rate of 7.975 percent at the time they purchased a new vehicle. The sales tax rate in Truesdale is 7.725 percent. Meanwhile, the residents who will be billed only paid the state and county portions of the sales tax rate in Truesdale. Part of the reason Truesdale failed to get the sales tax money earlier was due to not having its own ZIP code, Rainwater said. The city has been working for years to have its 63380 ZIP code reinstated. Earlier this summer, a survey was sent to residents seeking their input on the request after an earlier attempt was denied. Truesdale currently shares the 63383 ZIP code with Warrenton. In other news • At the July 23 board of aldermen meeting, city officials decided to see if parking restrictions need to be implemented in certain areas. Mayor Murray Bruer agreed to have the Warrenton Fire Protection District and Warren County Ambulance District provide recommendations on how the city should proceed with allowing parking on only one side of certain streets and if snow routes need to be designated in the winter. “We’re really concerned with emergency vehicles reading someone in need,” Rainwater said. • City crews will mow the grass at 223 Conrad Circle despite repeated attempts to reach the mortgage holder on the property. Neighbors had been complaining about the grass not being mowed on the property, city officials said. The property has been foreclosed on. The board voted 4-0 to have crews cut the grass. • The board voted unanimously to seek bids for three street projects. The proposed projects include repairing a portion of the concrete street in the Daniel Boone Industrial Park, a 2-inch overlay on Smith Street from Laura Street to Bolm Lane, and a chip and seal on Lou Gunther. The work is expected to occur this summer or in the fall once bids are awarded. • The city accepted a proposal from Charles Montgomery for auditing services for the 2014 fiscal year ending June 30. The city will spend $2,635 for the audit, which is $150 more than the year before. The board also agreed to pay $1,400 to Brown and Brown Accounting for the preparation of the sixth-month financial statement ending June 30. • Aldermen unanimously approved business licenses for Heritage Carpentry, located at 734 E. Booneslick, and MW Classic Cars LLC, located at 1804 Daniel Boone Industrial Parkway. • Approval was given to stop traffic on Highway M, West Street, Pinckney Street, South Street on Sept. 27 for Slim’s Journey, a 5K run and 2.5K walk to raise money fro Friedreich’s Ataxia.
