By Tim Schmidt Record Managing Editor The city of Truesdale will be conducting smoke tests within the next two weeks to identify problems within the sewer system. The smoke will reveal sources of sewer odors in the neighborhood as well as locate where stormwater and other sources of surface waters are entering the sewer system, city officials said. The testing will be done in the area of Countryside and Juni Way. It is scheduled to be completed by May 12, depending on the weather. City Clerk Mary Lou Rainwater said residents should have received a notice last week about the upcoming smoke test. “We are having some infiltration in that area,” she said. “We need to find out the cause of the problem.” A special non-toxic smoke will be used in the test, officials noted. It leaves no residue or stains and has no effects on plant or animal life. Rainwater said the test will be conducted for free by Missouri Rural Water as part of the city’s membership fee. The only expense the city is incurring is around $100 to buy smoke bombs for the test. Residents can call city hall at 636-456-3166 for more information.
