Railroad Days officially returns to Bruer Park in Truesdale this Saturday, but locals will get a little sneak peak Friday night with a kickoff event at 6:30 p.m.
According to Mayor Jerry Cannon, Friday night will feature the band Voyage and popcorn and lemonade will be available. Cannon said the stage for the event is usually set up Friday morning, so the city thought, “why not use the stage Friday night.”
The official kickoff for Railroad Days is Saturday morning starting at 9:45 a.m. with a flag ceremony followed by the National Anthem.
Cannon said there will also be a dedication of some recently acquired Americans with Disabilities Act compliant picnic tables in honor of Alderman Justin Naranjo, who passed away early last year. There will also be a dedication to former Mayor Jerry Pherigo, who recently passed away.
The event officially opens at 10 a.m. and Cannon said this year’s Railroad Days will feature 49 vendors, including 11 food vendors and two adult drink vendors. Vendors will be along Market Street, which will be closed to traffic from Laura Street to Smith Street.
Cannon said some of the activities available to event participants will be a CMR train display, mechanical bull, carnival games, face painting, caricatures, a popsicle eating contest, limbo competition and a variety of other events, all of which are free. Cannon said the Missouri Department of Conservation will also have staff present to teach children how to fish.
Musical acts Saturday include the Gateway Country Music Association, which will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rock Mafia, who are a blend of rock and country music, will perform from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The evening will close with Nine Lives, a REO Speedwagon tribute band, performing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Parking will be available at Rebecca Boone Elementary and the Warren County Pathfinders facility on East Booneslick Road in Truesdale with shuttles running all day.
Cannon said Railroad Days first started 2017 and is a great way to show off the community.
“It is a great event,” Cannon said. “We are proud to be able to serve the community like this.”
