By Tim Schmidt Record Managing Editor There just may be a glimmer of hope for Truesdale officials who want their old ZIP code back. The U.S. Postal Service is sending out a survey to all Truesdale residents seeking their input on the request. The survey was expected to be mailed out this week. Truesdale officials have long sought the return of their old 63380 ZIP code, a move that should solve the loss of sales tax revenue and other tax fees. Truesdale currently shares the 63383 ZIP code with Warrenton. In January, postal officials denied the city’s most recent request to have their 63380 ZIP reinstated. Since then, staff members for U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt and U.S. Rep. Blaine Luektmeyer have been working with the city to put up one last fight. “We’re happy we got this far with it,” Truesdale Mayor Murray Bruer said. City officials are unsure of what information will be sought in the survey mailed this week. Nonetheless, they encourage residents to immediately return the survey. “It’s important we get it filled out and returned,” City Clerk Mary Lou Rainwater said. “We need the city residents to help in this fight.” The results are expected to be known within four weeks, Bruer said. According to city officials, they were promised they could keep the 63380 ZIP code after the rural contract station closed in June 1979. By 1985, the postal service revised its position and told Truesdale residents they had to use the 63383 ZIP. “I still get mail with the old ZIP code,” Bruer said. A couple of years ago, he recently learned, four cities won approval for their ZIP code to be reinstated. “It’s not unprecedented,” he remarked. Bruer said the city was appreciative of the assistance provided by the staffs of Blunt and Luetkemeyer. “They got this started,” Bruer said. “I am so thankful they are carrying on with it and being active with it.
