Truesdale Mayor Murray Bruer underwent surgery at St. Louis University Hospital on Tuesday after falling ill with cancer found in his esophagus.
This is the third bout with cancer for Bruer, who is 76 years old, City Clerk MaryLou Rainwater said.
The procedure was to insert stents into Bruer’s esophagus to allow him to eat and drink, Rainwater said.
Bruer returned home after the surgery and is determined to continue his duties as mayor, she added.
“We’re going to take it day by day,” Rainwater said. “Murray’s a fighter.”
The future is uncertain for Bruer’s medical condition, but Rainwater said many members of the community have called to express their support.
“We just ask for prayers for a great guy,” Rainwater said. “He’s always working not just for Truesdale, but for the entire area.”
