Truesdale man charged with domestic assault

A Truesdale man has been charged with felony domestic assault for allegedly choking a woman he was dating after an argument about “how she chooses the dog over him.”

Christopher W. Pender was charged Thursday, Aug. 6, with third-degree domestic assault following the incident the previous night. Police responded to a residence shortly before 10 p.m. Aug. 5 after receiving a report of a woman barricaded in her bedroom.

The woman told police she had been in a relationship with Pender for about a year, and that when she went to put the dog in its kennel earlier that night, she and Pender got in an argument over the dog.

Pender allegedly threw a water bottle at her, then grabbed her by the neck and began choking her. The woman told police she feared for her safety, but she was able to get away from Pender to barricade herself in their bedroom.

Pender admitted to police that he threw the water bottle at the woman, according to a probable cause statement. “Pender said the argument had been about the dog, and how she chooses the dog over him,” the statement notes.

Pender, born in 1974, claimed he could not remember whether the confrontation became physical but did admit to knowing he “did wrong,” according to the statement, as well as “to having physical domestics” in the past. He is being held without bond at the Warren County Jail.
