Truesdale delays decision on proposed road repairs

Record Managing EditorTruesdale officials said they will make a decision this month on whether or not to partner with Warrenton on a road improvement project.Warrenton has approached Truesdale about extending its northern boundary so that both cities own a portion of Veterans Memorial Parkway between Warrenton Tire and Muffler and The Car Store. That would allow the cities to share the expense in the road repairs. The projected cost to repair the stretch of Veterans Memorial Parkway is $114,000, which includes grinding and an asphalt overlay. Warrenton has asked Truesdale to contribute approximately $49,000.At the Dec. 10 board of aldermen meeting, Truesdale Mayor Murray Bruer informed the board of a recent letter sent from Warrenton requesting a response on the proposal. Bruer said the matter will be discussed further at the Jan. 28 board meeting. The westbound lane is located within the Warrenton city limits, however a property survey concluded the remainder of the street is not located in either Warrenton or Truesdale.Under an agreement with MoDOT from 1965, Warrenton is responsible for maintenance of Veterans Memorial Parkway. The city could terminate the agreement, but would not have any control on when future repairs would be made since the parkway is a state road.If Truesdale decides not to extend its northern boundary, Warrenton could keep the maintenance agreement in place and extend its city limits by annexing the eastbound lane.In other news• Also at the Dec. 10 meeting, a new ordinance lowering the minimum age requirement for aldermen in fourth-class city was unanimously approved. Aldermen can now be as young as 18. The previous minimum age was 21.The ordinance was amended to reflect the new minimum age requirement passed by state legislators.• A new business license was issued for K&S Tires, located at 801 Smith St., due to a change of ownership. The business is now owned by David Jackson. The board voted 4-0 to approve the license.• A business license was issued for Don’s Contract Service, a home-based business located at 926 South Street. The board also granted a variance to allow a business to be in a mobile home. Both requests passed by a 4-0 vote.Truesdale
