Truesdale approves emergency purchase of vehicle for snow removal

After an accident Oct. 30 totaled a city of Truesdale vehicle that was to be the city’s primary snow removal device, city officials voted on an emergency basis to purchase a 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 dump bed pickup truck to serve as a plow vehicle for the upcoming winter season.

During the Nov. 12 Truesdale Board of Aldermen meeting Mayor Jerry Cannon said in order not to rush the insurance process on the totaled vehicle, city officials voted on an emergency basis via email to purchase the 2006 Chevy Silverado. Cannon said the Silverado was purchased from Purple Wave Auction on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the auction deadline. Cannon said bidding for the vehicle ended at 10:30 a.m, Nov. 4, but in order to purchase the vehicle the board of aldermen had to vote on an emergency basis to purchase the truck.

The aldermen voted 4-0 by email to purchase the vehicle for $32,350, which includes the cost of the vehicle at $28,500, a buyer’s premium of $2,350 and a shipping fee of $1,000.

During the Nov. 12 meeting, the board also heard from AGAPE Executive Director Michelle Bernth, who notified city officials that the warming center location for the county was being moved this year from the Mary Lou Center in Truesdale to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Wright City. She said the move was due to changes in St. Charles County that required two warming shelters in the eastern part of St. Charles and that Warren County would be working closely with the shelter in western St. Charles County and the move was part of that arrangement.

The board also unanimously approved an ordinance to declare a municipal election within the city for Tuesday, April 12, 2026.

The board also unanimously approved an ordinance to authorize Police Chief Casey Doyle to enter into a memorandum of understanding to establish a multi-jurisdictional warrant team.

During the board’s Oct. 22 meeting, Doyle said he had been working with the Wright City Police Department to create such a team. During that meeting Doyle said in years past when there was a search warrant for high-risk arrests, departments would call other agencies and throw together whatever officers were available. He said more recently officers with Truesdale and Wright City have been working together, with many of the same officers participating when serving search warrants. He said the goal is to solidify this group as a formal team with a mandated training schedule.

Doyle said each department would fund their own training and equipment.

The board also approved an ordinance to execute an agreement between the city and Klance Unlimited for mobile staging services for Railroad Days Summerfest 2026.

The board also unanimously approved a check to AGAPE for $500 for services dedicated to Truesdale residents.
