Work on a proposed new interchange, the idea of tolling Interstate 70, setting the 2016 city tax rate and a possible new event were topics for Truesdale’s Board of Aldermen at its final August meeting. At the meeting, the board set the new tax rate at 81.31 cents for each $100 of assessed valuation, which is that same rate as 2015.Also discussed was preliminary work for what could be a new future interchange at South Spoede Lane and I-70.There has been talk of the need for an interchange east of Highway 47 for some time.Mayor Murray Bruer said a study by the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission in 2015 showed 203 trucks on South Spoede Lane in one day and it is highly possible the number is greater now. He added that a 2002 MoDOT report stated that an interchange would be needed east of Highway 47 at some time.Stracks Church Road has been part of the discussion but now city officials are focusing on South Spoede Lane.City officials will be gathering support from residents and business owners.State funding is not available at the present time. Alderman Shalene Blackwood presented the recommendation for a future interchange at the Aug. 25 Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) for the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission.Toll Road The mayor reported that he attended a transportation meeting in Independence on Aug. 16. There, he said, discussion included an update on whether to establish I-70 as a toll road to finance work to improve and widen the interstate to three lanes.Bruer said the director needs to request an extension on the toll road plan because the deadline is Dec. 4. At that time, discussions can go on for one more year or the possibility of a toll road could be granted to another state.Bruer encouraged everyone to contact their state lawmakers and discourage them from extending the option for the toll road.Bruer said a model railroad group could be relocating to Truesdale. The group is in discussions with Warrenton Oil Company, the property owner at 825 Market St. They are discussing holding a Truesdale Railroad Days event. Al Holden of Glass Gardens is involved and thought the two-day event could include an arts and crafts element.Truesdale
