A new alderman has been appointed in Truesdale after Alderman Donald McGee resigned.Mayor Murray Bruer appointed Robert Green to replace the outgoing alderman after McGee said he was leaving because of health issues. Bruer said he expected that McGee might resign early, and that he is happy to have Green on board.“He’s a bright young man,” Bruer said. “I’m glad to see the younger people in our community step up and get involved in our government.”Green has been observing board of aldermen meetings for the last few months, and is familiar with the city’s business, he said.McGee served off and on as an alderman since 2003, City Administrator MaryLou Rainwater said. He was first appointed in October 2003, she said. Then he was elected in 2004 and 2006.McGee resigned from the board of aldermen in late 2006, but was reappointed in 2008 when the seat became open again. He was elected to four more terms in ’09, ’11, ’13 and ’15.Two board of aldermen seats are up for election this year in April, including McGee’s. He wasn’t seeking another term.Green filed for the election, and is the only Truesdale alderman candidate on the ballot other than incumbent Alderman Stanley Brookshier, who is running to keep his own seat.“The board hates to see Alderman McGee leave because he’s been on the board a long time and has a lot of input,” Rainwater said. She added that Green “was very gracious to agree to start early.”Truesdale
