Truck traffic leading to complaints

Wright City residents are concerned about the increasing number of tractor-trailers and say they need to be slowed down.City officials have recently fielded numerous complaints from residents about the traffic and briefly discussed ways to improve the situation at the Feb. 11 board of aldermen meeting. More discussion may be held at the March 7 workshop meeting. The truck traffic can reach the industrial park from two ways, though most tractor-trailers are using Elm Street in the center of the city to reach East First Street South. Drivers can also reach industrial businesses from South Stringtown Road.Public Works Director Larry Janish estimated 150 to 200 tractor-trailers daily are going to and from businesses in the industrial park, such as Coca-Cola and Universal Galvanizing. One idea suggested to the city was requiring all tractor-trailers to enter the industrial park from Stringtown Road so residential areas off First Street are not affected by the traffic. However, all traffic would have to enter the city from Foristell since the intersection at Elm Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway is too narrow for tractor-trailers to turn.“I don’t know if that is the answer,” Janish said.Police Chief Matt Eskew said extra patrols will be planned to deter speeding in the area. This is not the first time the city is reviewing traffic in the area.In 2014, Wright City had restricted parking between on sides of East First Street South between Elm Street and South Stringtown Road. Also, the speed limit was lowered to 15 mph between Northgate and Lagoon Road. All other areas on the street are 25 mph.Other news• Also at the Feb. 11 meeting, Alderman Dan Rowden was appointed to serve as a board of director on the 353 Redevelopment Corporation. He replaces Alderman Jim Schuchmann, who is not running for re-election. The Redevelopment Corporation will hold its annual meeting at 7:45 p.m. Feb. 25.Wright City
