Nicholas Dorman, 38, of Troy, was charged with felony stealing in Warren County on July 25.
According to the probable cause statement filed by Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Wade, he was dispatched to Rob’s Lawn and Garden store on June 6 for a reported theft.
The victim reported an individual had stolen a generator, worth roughly $800, and was able to photograph the vehicle as it was leaving the premises.
Wade searched the license plate of the vehicle and found a previous report from a traffic stop and identified Dorman through a booking photo taken on May 6.
According to the probable cause statement, Wade used the LeadsOnline database, which tracks pawn shop transactions, to locate the generator, which Dorman had pawned at a shop in Hazelwood.
Dorman also has several prior felony convictions including second-degree burglary in 2004 and possession of a controlled substance in 2021 in Warren County as well as the distribution of a controlled substance in Lincoln County in 2009.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and he is to be held on a $10,000 bond.
