Trivia night to benefit veterans memorial

Seats and tables need to be filled at the Tribute to Veterans Memorial Trivia Night Saturday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. at Wright City Lions Club, 678 Westwoods Road in Wright City.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tribute to Veterans Memorial which honors veterans of Warren County who served during wartime. It is located on Veterans Memorial Parkway next to Denny’s in Warrenton.

Donations from businesses, organizations and individuals have funded the project and more funding is needed to complete the project.

This is the second trivia night fundraiser for the group. Event Chairperson Kathy Daly said people at the St. Patrick’s Day trivia night said, “This was so much fun, when are we going to do this again?”

With that, the Halloween event was planned, but tickets have been slow to sell.

“We have 40 tables to fill. Right now we have 12 tables reserved,” said Daly.

The group hopes to see more support.

“(Trivia Night) is the last large fundraising event for Tribute to Veterans that we’ll have for 2017,” Daly said.

Tickets are $20 per person or $160 for a table with up to eight people. The price includes drink setups, ice, cups, water and soda. Guests may bring coolers with their own drinks and snacks.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the first round begins at 7 p.m. The theme is Halloween and costumes are welcome.

The best decorated table will earn a prize. First- and second-place winners will earn cash prizes.

The event will have as many as 30 silent auction items, a 50/50 raffle and a Witches Brew raffle.

In the Witches Brew raffle, the first winner picks one of five items. The second winner picks from four and so on. Among those items are Blues hockey tickets, a T.J. custom fishing rod and all-you-can-eat group package at Show-Me’s Bar and Grill in O’Fallon.

Guests can purchase T-shirts and customized brick pavers for the Tribute to Veterans Memorial.

Daly said everyone who has contributed can feel good about where their money is going and what they have done for the community.

“It’s thanks to everyone, all of the contributors, who have supported the Veterans Memorial that this is happening in our community,” she said. “We’re getting close to our end goal of raising the funds to build the memorial.”

The site has been prepared for construction of a parking area and walkway leading to the future memorial. Work bids for the driveway and parking lots have been awarded.

A large granite stone that will be engraved with veterans’ names is on order. Flag poles and bronze statues that are part of the display have been completed and are in storage.

The group is selling brick pavers to the public. They will have customized engraving and be part of the walkway around the memorial.

Daly said people will see more activity at the site very soon.

Checks should be made payable to Tribute to Veterans Memorial and mailed to TTVM 281 W. Veterans Memorial Parkway, Suite 1918, Warrenton, MO 63383.
