It’s not too late to purchase a walking paver for the Warren County Tribute to Veterans Memorial. The pavers will be engraved with the buyer’s personal message or tribute and laid on the walk of honor around the memorial.“Our count for pavers on the walk of honor is 963, only 37 to go to make 1,000,” said Rick Manitone with the memorial committee. The committee has extended the deadline from March 1 to April 6.The Tribute to Veterans Memorial will honor soldiers from Warren County who were killed during wartime, their families and those who have served. The memorial is under construction and located on Veterans Memorial Parkway where Market Street ends. The location is on the Purple Heart Trail.Manitone said anyone can purchase a paver. He said requests for pavers are coming in not just from Warren County, but from around the country, from places like New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas. When completed, the Tribute to Veterans Memorial will have a granite wall, 18-feet long, 6-feet high and 1-foot thick with the names of 72 servicemen who died during conflict. There will be a bronze statue of a Battlefield Cross with the Gold Star mother and child; and flags representing each military branch, the American flag and POW flags.Donations are bringing the project to fruition. It will likely open this summer. For more information or to purchase a paver, call Beth Vincent at 636-578-2407, Bill Survant at 636-297-0480 or Manitone at 636-456-0026.Tribute to Veterans Memorial
