Some Wright City residents will have to adjust their schedules and put out their trash on a new day beginning next month.Wilson Waste Systems will pick up trash for residential properties on the north side of Interstate 70 on Thursdays. The change is effective April 14.Currently, collection is done on Tuesdays. The Truesdale-based hauler had requested the change to help with its operation.“We’re trying to get our schedule more aligned with what we’re doing,” owner Keith Wilson said. “On Thursdays, we’re half loaded from Warrenton sometimes and this way we can finish up and get the trash trucks fully loaded. “It makes it more efficient and helps keep our costs down,” Wilson said. The change does not affect residents living on the south side of the interstate. Those residences will continue to have their trash picked up on Fridays. Citywide recycling will remain the same on Wednesdays.Wilson also noted the date change will affect when the city’s spring bulk cleanup is held. Residents north of I-70 will have bulk items picked up Thursday, May 12, with the south side on Friday, May 13.The company will call residents affected by the change and will follow up with letters for those who are not reached, Wilson said.City officials said they don’t expect any issues with the change, other than residents possibly forgetting what day to put their garbage cans on the curb.“Luckily it will be picked up two days later as opposed to two days earlier and the can sits out there for the entire weekend,” Alderman Jim Schuchmann said.City officials said Wilson had asked for the city to notify residents about the change, but declined to do so. The city, however, will include a note on the next water bill, its website and Facebook page.“I have no problem with changing the date, but I am not in favor of the city taking on all the extra work and costs to send notifications to their customers,” Alderman Dan Rowden said. “They are making money off the process. It’s their responsibility to notify the customer. That is how I feel.”The change to the trash collection day was approved by a 3-2 vote, with Mayor David Heiliger breaking a tie, at the March 10 board of aldermen meeting. Board members said the reason they were split on the issue was because at a previous meeting they were chastised by a resident who questioned why the mayor never votes.Trash day
