Eastbound Interstate 70 near the Stracks Church Road overpass has reopened after being shut down for more than 12 hours following a crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 3:05 p.m. when an unidentified vehicle struck a tractor-trailer, forcing it into a concrete barrier and causing it to overturn. The other vehicle left the scene.
The truck’s driver, a 45-year-old man from Granite City, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt.
The crash site lies within a construction zone that has seen multiple accidents in recent days. Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison said MoDOT and the contractor have since widened the concrete barriers in an effort to improve safety.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of the occupants involved in injury crashes.
