Another Marthasville city clerk has resigned. Less than a month after she started, Bonnie Nordwald is no longer working with the city.Nordwald was named an interim city clerk May 17 after the resignation of former clerk Lisa Irwin May 15. She resigned Friday, May 26.Before coming to Marthasville, Nordwald served as city clerk in New Florence for 10 years, assistant city clerk in Wentzville for eight years and spent time in the Warren County Circuit Court Clerk’s office. She was supposed to serve as interim clerk until the city found a permanent replacement. With Nordwald’s resignation, city hall has been closed. A sign has been posted on the doors of city hall alerting residents the building is “temporarily closed.”The message states the closure is due to the clerk’s resignation. City hall will remain closed until further notice while the city “diligently” works to find a new clerk, according to Mayor David Lange.Lange said the city already has several applicants and is working to fill the position as soon as possible.“In the meantime, the city has retained the services of temporary bookkeepers to fulfill the city clerk’s duties,” Lange said in a statement.Nordwald is the third clerk to leave the city since May 2016. Carla Heggemann was forced out and is currently suing the city for wrongful termination.Irwin took her place, but subsequently resigned stating the office was a “stressful working environment that I no longer wish to be a part of.”Utility Payments Without a clerk, the city has fielded multiple questions from residents about water bills. Lange said there was a delay in processing last month’s bills and sending out the new bills. The mayor said May utility payments were processed at the city’s bank Wednesday, June 7, and new bills were mailed to residents Wednesday, June 14.“The city apologizes for the inconvenience these resignations have caused and appreciates the residents’ patience while the city searches for a new city clerk,” Lange said in a statement. The message posted at city hall states utility payments are still being processed and can be mailed to the city or placed in the payment dropbox outside the building. Anyone with questions is directed to call city hall and leave a message. The city’s outgoing answering machine message relays the same information. Residents are told to leave a message and somebody will respond. In case of emergencies, residents are instructed to call 911.City of Marthasville
