Torch run for Special Olympics is Friday

Posted

Members of area law enforcement and first responder agencies will hold their annual torch run for Special Olympics on Friday, May 13.

The torch run is a yearly event that raises awareness for Special Olympics programs that allow people with developmental disabilities to participate in athletic competitions with their peers.

In Warren County, participants make a 6-mile run from western Wright City to central Warrenton.

This year’s run will begin at 9 a.m. May 13 at the McDonald’s in Wright City. Runners will use the I-70 outer roads to travel to Highway 47 in Warrenton, and then south to their destination at Khoury Park on Walton Street.

Special Olympics programs in the local area are organized by Warren County Handicapped Services. For more information about getting involved or supporting Special Olympics, go online to www.wchsmo.org/specialolympics, or call program coordinator Rich Black at 636-456-7518.
