To The Editor:Disrespect toward the United States anthem or flag shows disrespect toward the men and women of our armed forces who died for our freedoms. The flag code that was amended June 14-15, 1923, states that whenever the United States anthem (“The Star-Spangled Banner”) is played that all citizens and aliens should stand at attention and citizens should hold their right hand over their hearts. Men should remove their hats. When the flag passes in a parade, the same applies.People think that the flag is just a piece of material. The flag is a symbol of the liberty and freedoms that we the people cherish. It also holds the blood, sweat and tears of all the men and women who fought and died for what we cherish today. This is the reason why no one should desecrate the United States flag.Every one should read the words and know what those words mean in the Pledge of Allegiance and our national anthem. So don’t turn your backs on the anthem or our flag. And put God in our hearts, for God is responsible for this great nation, the United States of America. When I took my oath at the time of my enlistment I will defend my Constitution and my flag so help me God.If you want to demonstrate against something you think is wrong then go to that particular place, such as city hall, police department or government legislature building or send your complaint to your legislator or a petition with signatures. But keep the peace. Athletic games are not the place for these shows. When you demonstrate, do it peacefully. Least we forget that when you demonstrate, the people involved are responsible for anything that happens during your demonstrating. This means destroying other people’s property or getting someone injured or killed. You, the demonstrators, should stop any violence that you see occur before it gets started or you should be held responsible. You say that is law enforcement’s duty; no, it is the responsibility of the demonstrators to keep it peaceful. The law enforcers are there to make sure no one gets out of line and to protect people’s property as well as the people themselves. The Constitution says all people are created equal and all lives matter. We the people, for the people and by the people means you and I are the people.A U.S. citizen, veteran, voter,Albert Bruton, Truesdale
