All four Wright City boys wrestlers earned multiple wins to help the Wildcats to a ninth place team finish at the Priory Invite.
Three Wildcat wrestlers won three matches and all four wrestlers placed fifth or better in their weight class to help Wright City earn 58 team points during the competition.
Gavin McCord led Wright City with a second place finish in the 165-pound weight class. He earned three wins, two of which came by fall. He beat Leeam Gathright of North Callaway and Landon Jones of Metro-East Lutheran. After falling to STEAM Academy wrestler Tre-Vyon Chatman, he beat Anthony Ross of McCluer on an 8-6 decision to secure a second place finish.
Cody Cushing won three consecutive matches and placed third in the 190-pound weight class. After falling in his opening match, Cushing won three straight matches by fall. He beat STEAM Academy wrestler Henry Bryan, Metro-East Lutheran wrestler Caleb Probasco and McCluer wrestler Camron Hooks. He dropped a match to Jason Jones of New Madrid County on a 15-2 decision in his final match.
Joseph Beitel also went 3-2 during the tournament. He placed fifth in the 144-pound weight class. Beitel earned a pair of wins in his first four matches before competing in the fifth place match. Beitel beat John Burroughs wrestler Luke Hohenberg by fall in 3:16 in the fifth place match.
Quincy Rice won two out of his five matches and placed fourth in the 215-pound weight class. He earned wins over Justice Moore of North Callaway and Wyatt Phillippe of Metro-East Lutheran by fall.
Riggs, Greenwell place second at Seckman
Wright City wrestlers Elizabeth Riggs and Ella Greenwell both registered second place finishes at the Seckman Invite last weekend.
Riggs earned three wins in four matches and placed second in weight class 125A. She won each of her first two matches by fall, including a pin of Troy Buchanan wrestler Grace Marischen in 41 seconds. After dropping an 8-4 decision to Katelyn Guth of Francis Howell Central, Riggs earned a 12-4 major decision win over Addison Geiler of St. Genevieve in her final match of the tournament.
Greenwell won two of her three matches and placed second in the 235A weight class. She pinned Seckman wrestler Madison Clover in 3:05 and Jackson wrestler Haley Sanders in 2:14. Greenwell’s lone loss came to Mexico wrestler Alexus Johns.
Sadie Sehnert won her final four matches to place fourth in the 130A weight class. After dropping her opening match, Sehnert won her final four matches, including three wins by fall.
Kailin Hawn, Madelyn Hucker and Jolee Lockhart each won two matches.
Wright City placed ninth as a team. They finished the tournament with 28 points.
