Record Managing EditorThe Wright City boys cross country team made a run at winning the team crown at the Clopton Invitational Monday.The Wildcats had three runners place in the top 10 and finished second in the team standings.They compiled 55 points to finish behind Bowling Green.Jake Mueller was one of three medalists for Wright City in the boys race. He was recorded the fourth-fastest time in 19 minutes, 7 seconds. Teammates Stephan Norwood and Brice Reash followed in eighth and ninth, respectively, in 19:20 and 19:28.In the girls race, capturing medals were Jynna Fritz in third and Erin Tomschin in fifth. The duo finished the race in 21:06 and 22:17, respectively.The rest of the Wright City boys runners had strong runs. Nick Mueller had the fourth-best time for the team, placing 16th in 19:48. Other runners were Tanner Riley (22nd, 20:29), Andrew McCracken (26th, 20:39) and Arthur Ludwig (35th, 21:37).The girls team wound up fourth in the team standings. Also running in the race were Courtney Lawson (25th, 26:13), Zoe Pezold (27th, 26:38), Ashley Schulte (36th, 28:48) and Sierra Shaw (42nd, 32:02).Coach Sue Wright was proud of her runners’ performances, as many of them recorded a personal best on the course.“Everyone improved and it was a great job by all,” she said.In the junior varsity boys race, Javier Gonzalez placed seventh in 21:59, while Sean Pfuhl was 21st in 27:49.McKenzie McMullin was fifth in the girls race in 31:52.Wright City is scheduled to race at the Borgia Invitational this Saturday and in the Eastern Missouri Conference Meet on Monday at 4:30 p.m.Wildcats
