The Wright City wrestling program wrapped up its regular season competition with a showing in the Priory Tournament on Saturday.
The Wildcats had three first-place finishers among the 11 grapplers representing for the blue and gold. Returning home as champions were freshman David Rice, and seniors Bobby Ulloa and Curtis Hunter.
Rice claimed top honors in the 120-pound division, taking advantage of a sparse weight class. He had a bye in his first three rounds, before defeating Kyan Hunsberger of St. Marys by fall in the trophy round.
Ulloa dominated the 145-pound bracket on the day, pinning all five of his opponents, with four of those wins by fall coming in the first period.
Hunter was also quick to pin his 152-pound opponents, winning all five matches by fall, including two bouts in under 50 seconds.
In addition, freshman David Riggs had a solid showing for the Wildcats, placing second in the 106-pound division. He cruised through his first four matches, winning each by fall. Riggs faced his sole defeat in the title match, getting pinned by Winfield’s Matthew Hornbeck.
Taking third for the Wildcats was Damien Barfield in the 126-pound class. He won three out of five matches, losing in the final round with a quick pin.
Also finishing third was Riley Shive, who dropped his initial two matches at 285 pounds, before beating his last three opponents, including teammate Deshon Johnson. Shive was competing for the Wildcats at the junior varsity level.
The only fourth-place finisher for the Wildcats was sophomore Phoenix Andrew in the 170-pound bracket.
Recording fifth-place finishes for Wright City were freshmen Brandon Dake at 138 pounds and Corbin Schone at 160 pounds. Junior Layne Dothage also placed fifth at 195 pounds.
The Wildcats now have some time to rest as they prepare for the district tournament on Feb. 15 in hopes of advancing competitors to state the following weekend in Columbia.
