First-year Coach Shannon Wells felt his Wright City baseball team was well represented in terms of postseason accolades following a 14-10 campaign.Three Wildcats were chosen to both the Eastern Missouri All-Conference Team and the Class 3 All-District Team.Austin Marsh — Senior was Wright City’s lone first-team selection as a utility player. Marsh expanded his infielding duties, taking on the role of starting pitcher as well as playing shortstop. He led the team with a .506 batting average, collecting 45 hits, including 18 doubles. Marsh drove in 31 RBIs and scored 20 runs. He also had 14 stolen bases.On the mound he recorded a team-best 37 strikeouts, carrying a 2.60 ERA through 32 innings. Marsh walked nine and allowed 12 earned runs.“He really stepped up at the plate and hit well for us,” said Wells. “He was always able to get on base, which made him a really good lead-off hitter for us.”Devin Telkamp — Junior garnered second team honors after batting .386 with 27 hits and 13 RBIs. He scored 18 runs and had a dozen stolen bases.Telkamp was also the Wildcats’ most relied-upon source on the mound, throwing 41 innings with an ERA of 3.41. He finished 3-4 as a starter, striking out 30 batters and walking 22.“He really tried to step up and be a leader a lot of the time,” said Wells. “He had a noticeable drive to win, and his pitching progressed a lot over the season.”Troy Muse — Sophomore made an immediate impact during his first season on the varsity level, earning second-team honors. Playing outfield, Muse managed a .380 batting average with 27 hits and 18 RBIs. He was also a team leader with 21 stolen bases.“He really started to learn the centerfield position for us,” said Wells. “Toward the end of the year he started to pick up on hitter’s nuances of the game and react.”TELKAMP NAMED ALL-EMODerrick Forsythe Photo.
